Combimould – Multi-component technology
Combimould – Multi-component technology
Manufacturing of multi-functional parts of a wide variety of resins and/or colors
Multi-component technology
Combimould is the name of WITTMANN BATTENFELD’s multi-component injection molding technology. In this process, a basic part is produced in the first injection molding station, to which plastic components in different colors or made of different materials are subsequently added in a cyclical sequence in one or more injection molding stations. By combining the various material attributes with each other, a composite part of superior quality in terms of both visual attractiveness and functionality is created. This material bonding technology can be used to produce individual parts and integrated components where individual parts are joined together by assembly injection molding. Depending on the parts geometry in each case, this requires different process variants.
Advantages of multi-component injection molding
- Cost-effective production of complex parts in one step
- Better quality through controlled and replicable production process
- Great variety of design options in color and shape (visual and touch attributes)
- Tailored product properties through specific material combinations, e.g. rigid-soft combinations
- Functional integration
Multi-component equipment
WITTMANN BATTENFELD's extensive know-how includes all process variants such as multi-color, composite, assembly, multi-component and sandwich injection molding.
The right injection unit configuration for every application:
In addition to the horizontal H unit, Combimould machines can be fitted with further aggregates in V (vertical), L (horizontal at the rear of the machine), S (diagonal or “piggy-back”), H-H (parallel side-by-side) or B configuration (unit on the moving platen).
Differentiation by the method of transfering parts in the mold:
WITTMANN BATTENFELD Combimould technology offers a solution optimally geared to individual products and their cost-efficient production. Based on the part geometry in each case and the resulting mold concept, the most suitable parts transfer system is chosen.
- Rotary unit process – the standard process – rotary platen technology
- Index plate process – for complex part designs
- Robot transfer technology – flexibly adaptable to produce virtually all kinds of parts
- Slide retraction technology (Combiform) – overmolding without part transfer
